What is in the bag
The Myers' cocktail is the formula that started intravenous vitamin therapy as a category. It was developed by Dr. John Myers, a Baltimore physician who spent decades giving a magnesium, calcium, B-vitamin and vitamin C blend to patients before the practice had a name. The modern version keeps the core of it: magnesium, vitamin C and a substantial charge of B-complex. It is the generalist bag on the menu, which is exactly its appeal. Rather than targeting one outcome it covers a broad nutritional baseline, and that is why it remains the most widely given IV formulation in the world half a century later.

The Classic Myers' Cocktail — Questions We Get Asked
What is in a Myers' cocktail?
Magnesium, vitamin C and a substantial charge of B-complex vitamins. Dr. Myers' original also included calcium, and formulations vary between clinics because there is no single standardized recipe. You will be told exactly what is in yours at intake.
Is the Myers' cocktail evidence-based?
It has more behind it than most IV formulations, which is not the same as saying it is proven. There is a small randomized trial in fibromyalgia that did not separate it from placebo on the primary outcome, alongside a long record of clinical use and patient-reported benefit. Magnesium repletion in particular has genuine physiological effects. Treat it as a well-established wellness formulation with decades of use, not as a treatment.
Who is it for?
It is the usual recommendation for a first-time patient who is generally run down rather than dealing with one specific thing, and for people who want a broad nutritional baseline. Patients commonly book it for chronic fatigue, muscle spasm and seasonal allergy symptoms. If you have a specific goal, one of the targeted bags will fit better and we will say so.
Will the magnesium make me feel odd?
Some people notice warmth or a flushed feeling when magnesium goes in, particularly if it runs quickly. It passes, and slowing the rate resolves it. Tell your technician and she will adjust.
