Glutathione is a tripeptide of cysteine, glycine and glutamate that your cells produce themselves. It is the body's principal intracellular antioxidant and a required cofactor in phase II liver detoxification, where it binds fat-soluble compounds and makes them water-soluble for excretion. Oral glutathione is largely broken down in the gut before it reaches circulation, which is the reason it is given intravenously. This is delivered as a slow push by syringe through the line rather than hung as a bag, so it takes 15 to 30 minutes rather than an hour.

Does glutathione brighten or lighten skin?
This is the claim the treatment is best known for and it deserves a straight answer. Glutathione does interfere with melanin synthesis, and skin lightening is why it is used at scale in some countries. The evidence for a visible cosmetic effect is limited, results are inconsistent between people, and any effect reverses when you stop. The antioxidant and detoxification roles are far better established. Book it understanding which part of that is solid.
Why can't I just take a glutathione capsule?
You can, and some of it survives, but glutathione is a peptide and the digestive tract breaks most of it down before absorption. That is the whole rationale for the intravenous route. Liposomal oral forms do better than plain ones if you prefer to avoid a needle.
How long does the appointment take?
15 to 30 minutes. It is given as a slow push through the IV line rather than a hanging bag, so it is the quickest thing we do.
Who should not have it?
Anyone with a sulfa or sulfite sensitivity should tell us at intake, and we do not treat during pregnancy or breastfeeding without written clearance from the physician managing that care. If you have active liver or kidney disease, this needs to be a conversation with your own physician first.
